What are the benefits of exercise? — Exercise has many benefits. It can:

weight loss center

  • Burn calories, which helps people control their weight
  • Help control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes
  • Lower blood pressure, especially in people with high blood pressure
  • Lower stress and help with depression
  • Keep bones strong, so they don’t get thin and break easily
  • Lower the chance of dying from heart disease

What are the main types of exercise? — There are 3 main types of exercise.

They are:

  • Aerobic exercise – Aerobic exercise raises a person’s heart rate. Examples of aerobic exercise are walking, running, or swimming.
  • Resistance training – Resistance training helps make your muscles stronger. People can do this type of exercise using weights, exercise bands, or weight machines.
  • Stretching – Stretching exercises help your muscles and joints move more easily.

It’s important to have all 3 types of exercise in your exercise program. That way, your body, muscles, and joints can be as healthy as possible.

Should I talk to my doctor or nurse before I start exercising?

If you have not exercised before or have not exercised in a long time, talk with your doctor or nurse before you start a very active exercise program.

If you have heart disease or risk factors for heart disease (like high blood pressure or diabetes), your doctor or nurse might recommend that you have an exercise test before starting an exercise program.

When you start an exercise program, start slowly. For example, do the exercise at a slow pace or for a few minutes only. Over time, you can exercise faster and for longer periods of time.

What should I do when I exercise?

Each time you exercise, you should:

  • Warm up – Warming up can help keep you from hurting your muscles when you exercise. To warm up, do a light aerobic exercise (such as walking slowly) or stretch for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Warm up – Warming up can help keep you from hurting your muscles when you exercise. To warm up, do a light aerobic exercise (such as walking slowly) or stretch for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Work out – During a workout, you can walk fast, swim, run, or use an exercise machine, for example. You should also stretch all of your joints, including your neck, shoulders, back, hips, and knees. At least 2 times a week, you can add resistance training exercises to your workout.
  • Cool down – Cooling down helps keep you from feeling dizzy after you exercise and helps prevent muscle cramps. To cool down, you can stretch or do a light aerobic exercise for 5 minutes.
  • Warm up – Warming up can help keep you from hurting your muscles when you exercise. To warm up, do a light aerobic exercise (such as walking slowly) or stretch for 5 to 10 minutes.

If you can’t exercise for 30 minutes straight, try to exercise for 10 minutes at a time, 3 or 4 times

When should I call my doctor or nurse?

If you have any of the following symptoms when you exercise, stop exercising and call your doctor or nurse right away:

  • Pain or pressure in your chest, arms, throat, jaw, or back
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Feeling like your heart is fluttering or racing very fast
  • Feeling dizzy or faint

What if I don’t have time to exercise?

Many people have very busy lives and might not think that they have time to exercise. But it’s important to try to find time to exercise, even if you think that they have time to exercise. But it’s important to try to find time to exercise, even if you are tired or work a lot. Exercise can increase your energy level, which might even help you get more work done.

On days when you really can’t find time to exercise, there are ways that you can be more active. For example, you can: think that they have time to exercise. But it’s important to try to find time to exercise, even if you are tired or work a lot. Exercise can increase your energy level, which might even help you get more work done.

On days when you really can’t find time to exercise, there are ways that you can be more active. For example, you can:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Park in a parking space that is farther away from the door
  • Take a longer route when you walk from one place to another
  • Drink fluids during and after exercising (but drinks should not have caffeine in them)

What Is Metabolic Testing

Metabolism is the conversion of food (calories) into energy that is utilized by your body. Metabolic testing determines the rate at which your body burns calories. The efficiency of your body’s metabolism depends on factors such as your:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Body weight
  • Body composition
  • Hormone levels.

Metabolic testing can help your doctor identify:

  • Slow metabolism, which may be the reason for difficulty with achieving weight loss
  • Changes in metabolism, which can cause weight loss to taper off after some initial success with an exercise program.

In preparation for the test you should avoid:

  • Eating 4 hours prior to the test
  • Exercising
  • Stimulants such as caffeine

You will be asked to sit or recline in a comfortable position and simply breathe into a mouth piece for about 10 minutes. Your oxygen consumption will be measured which is directly related to your metabolic rate. You can close your eyes and relax during the procedure. At the end of the procedure your metabolic efficiency will be established.

Based on your unique metabolic profile, your doctor will be able to design an individualized exercise program that will help you to reach and maintain your ideal weight.

If you don’t know how many calories you burn in a day, how can you diet appropriately? After all, we all, we are all different from one another, and so are metabolic rates. The assumption that a 2000 calorie/day diet is appropriate may be grossly incorrect. We are one of the few offices that utilizes calorimetry to actual measure you “Calories Burned.” We have seen a full range of metabolic rates, from 900 calories, to 4500 calories burned daily. By measuring your oxygen consumption over a 10-15 minute period, this non-invasive machine allows us to properly design a diet program that will keep your intake less than your calories burned, resulting in weight loss. Additionally, it may help you to decide which surgical operation is best for you.

Covered by insurance in most cases, but cash options are available.

About Weight Loss

Obesity is a medical condition that not only restricts everyday tasks, but can also lead to a number of serious health problems, such as Type-2 diabetes, cardiac issues, and various other comorbid conditions. The level of obesity of a person is measured by the BMI or Body Mass Index. A person with a BMI of 30 or above is considered obese. As the condition leads to serious health issues, it is important to seek professional help and follow a comprehensive medical weight loss program to avoid potential health issues. Medical therapies are approved for people with a BMI over 27 if they have health problems, or a BMI over 30. At Allen Weight and Cosmetic Clinic we create a customized medical weight loss program to help you lose weight and maintain an ideal weight.

What Medical Weight Loss Is All About

Before opting for surgical intervention, it is advisable to try all other alternatives for losing weight. Non-surgical methods for medical weight loss include the ESG/Accordion procedure regular exercise, special diet plan, and weight loss supplements. However, the ideal way to reach your ideal weight is to seek the help of the weight loss consultants at Allen Weight and Cosmetic Clinic, and follow a customized weight loss program.

Candidates For Medical Weight Loss

Anyone who has a BMI of 30 or above is eligible to follow a medical weight loss program. In addition, people who experience other weight-related health problems, such as high blood pressure or Type-2 diabetes with a BMI of 27, can also be candidates for a weight loss program.

Effective Weight Loss Exercise Plans

Effective weight loss is achieved by regulating your diet and performing weight-loss exercises regularly. You can achieve your ideal weight only when you burn more calories than you intake in a day. Therefore, it is essential to create and follow a strict weight loss plan. A few exercises you need to include in your daily routine are:

  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Kettlebell Swings

Weight Loss Pharmacotherapy and Supplements

Another way to lose weight while making sure your body receives the needed nutrients is to take weight loss supplements and medicines. Weight loss medicines simply suppress your appetite, and therefore reducing the number of calories you intake. Weight loss supplements, on the other hand, contain important vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients you body needs. A few effective medications that we routinely use include:

  • Adipex
  • Orlistat
  • Phentermine/Topiramate
  • Naltrexone/Bupropion
  • Saxenda

Learn More About the Popular Dermal Filler

Juvederm Dothan

There seem to be almost as many methods for treating wrinkles and hollows as there are places for the age-revealing conditions to appear. While many of the creams and peels, tightening agents and abrasion techniques used to turn back the clock are quite effective, one option in particular continues to stand out for people looking to correct various lines, contouring issues, and a lack of volume on their face: Juvéderm®. Dothan-area patients choose the product for its successful track record of long-lasting and natural-looking results.

These patients also choose Dr. Allen and his team to administer Juvéderm® for maximum results in a safe and pleasant setting. The trained and focused skin experts specialize in top-notch dermatological care, which means they are well-versed in Juvéderm® and its application.

What is Juvéderm®?

Juvéderm® is an injectable dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid that rejuvenates and refreshes your appearance by smoothing away unwanted lines and bringing back the natural contours of your face.

The active ingredient is based on the hyaluronic acid that occurs naturally in your body. As a sugar, it combines with the water in your skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore lost volume to such specific regions as the lips (it makes an excellent lip filler), cheeks, jaw-line, and hollows under the eyes (also known as tear troughs). When used as a facial filler, hyaluronic acid can even naturally stimulate collagen production in your skin. Much like a sponge, its primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the face.

Hyaluronic acid can be thought of as the body’s internal moisturizer. As the skin ages and is exposed to environmental pollutants and ultraviolet rays, the cells lose their ability to produce hyaluronic acid. As a result, the skin begins to lose moisture and volume, causing the formation of facial wrinkles and folds.

Hyaluronic acid is typically quickly metabolized by the body, but the cross-linking process that creates the formulation used in Juvéderm®, known as Hylacross technology, turns it from a liquid to a gel that takes longer for the body to break down. This also sets it apart from some other fillers that have a more grainy consistency.

JUVÉDERM IN DOTHAN

JUVÉDERM® is a dermal filler that can make you look younger after a cosmetic procedure that takes just 30 to 45 minutes to complete. If you are interested in this injectable treatment, do not hesitate to reach out to our team at Allen Weight and Cosmetic Clinic.

HOW DOES JUVÉDERM WORK?

Skin has two layers: The top layer is called the epidermis, and the bottom layer is the dermis. Hyaluronic acid is present in the dermis, as are other molecules like collagen. In young skin, there are high concentrations of these molecules, which plump up the skin and give it a smooth appearance.

As we age, hyaluronic acid amounts decrease, which reduces the volume of the dermis. The top layer—the epidermis—starts to wrinkle and fold because the dermis doesn’t provide as much structural support.

JUVÉDERM is a soft and moldable gel with concentrated amounts of hyaluronic acid that is injected into the skin’s dermal layer. It replenishes your skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid; increases the volume of the dermis; and helps smooth out those fine lines, wrinkles, and skin folds that develop because of aging.

WHAT CAN JUVÉDERM DO FOR YOU?

JUVÉDERM can enhance your appearance in two different ways:

  1. It can give you a more youthful look by replenishing your dermal layer
  2. It can enhance some of your face’s natural features to give them a plumper look

Lip Enhancement

Full, sensual lips are all the rage in Hollywood and on magazine covers and social media. Many people aren’t naturally blessed with full lips, but a JUVÉDERM treatment can easily give your lips a full and luscious appearance.

Reduction Of Facial Wrinkles And Folds

Some of the earliest signs of aging are fine lines and wrinkles, mid-face volume loss, and the deepening of facial folds like those that run from the corners of your nose to the corners of your lips. These facial folds are particularly prominent even when they’re not very deep because they lie in the central third of your face. That means they’re one of the first things that people see when they look at your face.

Treated for lines around mouth (Nasolabial Folds) and between eyebrows (Glabella)
Facial folds — and often fine lines and wrinkles too — deepen when you talk, smile, and laugh, which makes them even more noticeable.

JUVÉDERM can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and facial folds by literally filling in the skin imperfections that cause them. This gives the skin (and your entire face) a smoother, younger, and very natural look.

JUVÉDERM can improve the appearance of mid-face volume loss, facial folds, fine wrinkles, and lines around the lips and chin and depressions around the eyes.

HOW LONG DOES A JUVÉDERM TREATMENT LAST?

Most dermal filler treatments last for around 9 to 12 months. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®, used to give volume to your mid-face, will last 18 to 24 months. JUVÉDERM is very similar to other dermal fillers, like Restylane®, but the JUVÉDERM formulation uses hyaluronic acid molecules in a cross-linked formation. This helps them to last longer at the site of injection and lengthens the effect of the treatment.

While Restylane treatments last six to nine months, a single JUVÉDERM treatment can last up to a full year!

IS JUVÉDERM SAFE?

Because hyaluronic acid is a molecule that’s already present in your skin, JUVÉDERM is very safe to use as a cosmetic treatment. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM are used in more than 70 countries all over the world.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE CONSULTATION?

At your JUVÉDERM consultation, you’ll discuss the treatment and what kinds of benefits you can expect. If you have any questions about the procedure or its effects, our staff will happily address them.

Next, you’ll have the treatment itself. This takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes and consists of a series of small injections. The needle that’s used for these is very thin and causes very little discomfort. Also, the product comes premixed with powder lidocaine that aids in calming the mild discomfort caused by injections. In fact, many patients don’t feel anything at all.

HOW MUCH JUVÉDERM DO I NEED?

The amount of JUVÉDERM you need depends on two things:

  1. The number of areas to be treated
  2. The depth of the wrinkles or folds in those areas

For example, fine lines above your mouth might need half a syringe of JUVÉDERM, while the folds that extend from your nose to your mouth may need one to two full syringes. Enhancing the lips usually requires one-half to one syringe, depending on the volume desired.

For your first treatment — especially for lip enhancement — it’s a good idea to have a smaller amount to make sure you achieve a natural-looking result.

HOW LONG BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?

Once your JUVÉDERM treatment is over, you’re free to go about the rest of your day. You can even return to work, as there are no aftereffects that will impair your ability to work or enjoy your normal activities. The only change that’s necessary is to restrict exercise for the first 24 hours.

The best part? You can see the effects of your treatment right away! There’s an immediate effect that is visible as soon as the injections are done, although it does take up to two weeks for the product to settle into your skin, so you can enjoy your final results.

In the first 24 to 48 hours after your treatment, you’ll experience some minor swelling at the injection sites, but this subsides quickly. A small number of people do have a bigger reaction to the injections and might experience significant swelling and even some bruising, which may take several days to subside.

Because of the swelling, it’s a good idea to make sure you have your JUVÉDERM treatment several days before you plan to attend any social functions or other events. This is especially important for your first JUVÉDERM injections, due to the possibility of having a stronger reaction to the first treatment. Having the treatment two weeks in advance will ensure you look your absolute best at your event!

What Are Fillers?

Botox and juvederm treatments dothan Alabama

A dermal filler is a solution Doctor Allen  uses that is injected into the skin to relax the appearance of wrinkles and lines. The filler solution is commonly composed of collagen or hyaluronic acid, which is already present in the skin. When injected, the filler smooths and expands the surface of the skin, making it look more youthful. The effect of most fillers is temporary and must be repeated to maintain the look. Fillers are also used to “plumpen” up thin lips and cheeks, making them look more full and attractive for a period of time.

  • Juvederm
  • Botox
  • Voluma

Is Treatment with Fillers Painful?

Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The smooth consistency gel of dermal fillers such as Juvéderm and Botox allows your doctor to administer it easily and smoothly. And, dermal fillers such as Juvéderm and Restylane are injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. At Allen Weight and Cosmetic Clinic we numb the treatment area with a topical cream or injection to maximize your comfort.

Why Allen Weight and Cosmetic Clinic?

At Allen Weight and Cosmetic Clinic, all treatments are done by Dr. Allen himself, an expert in wrinkle treatments and cosmetic medicine. At other offices a general medical doctor or some other specialist who does not focus on cosmetic medicine may perform the treatment; and yet at other offices nurses do the treatment.

Don’t you want your treatment to be done by a doctor like Dr. Allen who has done hundreds of treatments and trained others on the technique? Patients get outstanding results as seen in the before and after gallery.

Wrinkles: Botox is most used to diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles around the areas of the face. Some common names for these include frown lines, glabellar lines, and crow’s feet.

Lips: One of the most popular uses? Adding volume and plumpness to your lips. A small amount of this injectable can go a long way, giving your lips a more plump and full appearance.
